Hua Tuo is said to have been the first physician to use herbal medicine introduced from India for anaesthesia. He used Mafeisan to relieve patients' sense of pain before performing surgery on them. A thousand years later, today, China's professional standard in anaesthesia continues to rise, the range of populations to which anaesthesia techniques are applied keeps expanding, and the profession has approached the level of developed countries. This documentary, made at a cost of millions, spanned from preliminary meetings and on-site reconnaissance before filming, across all of China from south to north and east to west, and even involved filming in Lhasa, Tibet; from start to finished film it took a full year, and the final work is enough to move the entire Chinese anaesthesia community.
